Dancers 2006-2007

Renee is currently pursuing her doctorate in philosophy at the University of Washington with a focus on aesthetics and the philosophy of dance. She received bachelor's degrees in dance and philosophy from the University of Washington in 1997 and was awarded a UW Dean's Medal for Excellence in the Arts in 1998. She has had the pleasure of performing with a variety of companies in the greater Seattle area, including the Chamber Dance Company, Spectrum Dance Theater, Leaving Ground, and The Fifth Avenue Musical Theatre Company. She has also enjoyed choreographing several musicals for the Bainbridge Playhouse and teaching ballet, tap, and jazz at studios in and around the Seattle area. When she is not reading Kant, correcting papers, or in the dance studio, Renee spends time relaxing with her wonderful husband and two adorable cats.


Alex began her dance training in Calgary, Alberta where she studied ballet with Dorothy Sinclair. She abandoned dance at the age of 12 to pursue sports and academics, eventually earning a doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of Washington. Alex resumed dancing, as a means to stay sane, while finishing her degree. She has danced with ARC Dance and Wobbly.com and has had the opportunity to perform the works of numerous choreographers, including Jean Campbell, Marie Chong, Mark Haines, Mark J. Kane and Wade Madsen. Alex currently earns her keep as a software engineer for a local internet retailer. She is excited to return to Lehua Dance Theatre and is just happy to be dancing.


Natascha received her early training in Walla Walla, WA from Idalee Hutson-Fish and attended summer programs with the Joffrey Ballet, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, and American Ballet Theater. She attended Cornish College of the Arts as a Kreielsheimer Scholarship recipient and graduated magna cum laude in 2005 with a dance degree. She has worked with Donald Byrd and Jason Ohlberg, as part of Spectrum Dance Theater, and spent the last year as a company member of Evergreen City Ballet. She has also been fortunate to perform the work of Thaddeus Davis, Sarah Slipper, Patricia Hon, and Gerard Theoret. Natascha is excited to be performing in her first season with Lehua Dance Theatre.


Karena is excited to be in her fifth season with LDT and dancing with such a wonderful group of people. She has danced professionally with the Colorado Ballet and ARC Dance. Her dance training includes Cornish, the Richmond Ballet, the University of Washington and Stephanie Saland, among others. Currently she teaches modern and ballet at Bainbridge Dance Center, Cornish, and the Interlochen Arts Camp. She graduated summa cum laude from the UW with a degree in Classics, the study of ancient Greek and Latin, which she still likes to read in her free time when not playing the violin or snuggling her cats.


Jamie was born and raised in Seattle, WA and recently graduated from Cornish College of the Arts with a BFA in dance. In addition to Lehua Dance Theatre, she is a member of Wade Madsen and Dancers. She teaches locally and continues to choreograph for public high schools and annual studio recitals.


Kristen graduated cum laude from Western Michigan University's Department of Dance and the Lee Honors College. Kristen has performed in Seattle with OaklanDrive alongside The Three Yells and has been a guest performer and teacher with Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her teachers have included Michèle Assaf, Frank Chaves, Derrick A. Evans, Mary Cochran, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Karen Milligan, and Rebecca Lazier (among others). She has performed throughout the Midwest, New England, and the Czech Republic. Kristen has taught at Interlochen Arts Camp and Western Michigan University. Since moving to the Seattle area she has been teaching dance at eXit SPACE School of Dance, Bainbridge Dance Center, and Momentum Dance Academy. Kristen is the artistic director of Redd Legg Dance, which is housed at eXit SPACE School of Dance. This is Kristen's third season with Lehua Dance Theatre.


Michelle trained with Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet schools. She has performed extensively with Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, as well as touring internationally to Hong Kong and Istanbul. Michelle graduated from the University of Washington, where she premiered her own work at Meany Hall, with commissioned live music, and she continues to collaborate with local artists of various media. She has performed works by many notable choreographers including Sonia Dawkins, Mark Haim, Dale Merrill, Marie Chong, Kent Stowell and George Balanchine. This is her fourth season with LDT.


Thandhat has been training in dance for the past three years, attending classes at Kirkland Dance Center and in Seattle. He has had the opportunity to train in various styles and most recently has been introduced to circus arts through aerial fabric. Thandhat is excited to begin his professional career dancing with LDT.


Michael is the founder and former Artistic Director of Impetus Dance Theater. His choreography has been performed throughout the United States and Europe and is in the repertoire of Gus Giordanos Jazz Dance, Mordine & Co. Dance Theatre, The Chicago Dance Crash, Instruments of Movement, and Impetus Dance Theater. Michael began his career dancing with River North Dance Chicago and has since performed with Jump Rhythm Jazz, The Chicago Ballet, Mordine & Co., James Kelly Choreography Project, Same Planet Different World, Lucky Plush Productions, Instruments of Movement, Luna Negra Dance Theatre, and Nandanse. Michael is currently on faculty at Spectrum and has also taught at Lou Conte Dance Studio.


Jason received his training from SUNY Purchase, the Martha Graham School, David Howard, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and the Lou Conte Dance Center. His professional credits include Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Jan Eckert and Dancers, and Dance Kaleidoscope, where he served as choreographer in residence for two years. In 1997, Jason founded Same Planet Different World Dance Theater in Chicago, IL with whom he continues to have a working relationship. He has served on the faculty of Barat College, University of Washington, Jordan Academy, and the School of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Jason currently teaches at Spectrum Dance and Metropolitan Pilates.


Patrick started dancing at age 6 in Hutchinson, Minnesota where he studied ballet, jazz, and tap. He received his High School Diploma from Perpich Center for Arts Education Arts High school where his main focus was dance. He is currently attending Cornish College of the Arts to receive his B.F.A in Dance. At Cornish he has performed the works of Martha Graham, Bebe Miller, Sonia Dawkins, Gerard Theoret, Wade Madsen, Christy Dobson, Jason Ohlberg, Deborah Wolf, and Pat Hon. He currently teaches at Allegro Performing Arts Academy in Kent and choreographs for Allegro's competition teams.


Rain danced with The Playhouse Dance Company (Durban, South Africa), Coleman/Freedman (Massachusetts), and ARC Dance (Seattle), among others. Her training includes Cornish Preparatory Program, North Carolina School of the Arts, Stephanie Saland, and Rose and Charles Flachs. Rain received The 2004 Amy Award for Emerging Artists in recognition for her work as a dancer, choreographer, and actor. Rain has taught at Mount Holyoke College, University of Iowa, Bainbridge Dance Center, and Seattle Civic Dance and has choreographed for a number of musicals. Besides dance, Rain loves intellectual snobbery, graduated summa cum laude from Mount Holyoke College, and is currently pursuing her MFA in choreography at the University of Iowa. You can always send her bribes of chocolate and wine.


Courtney's performance career began with the Ithaca Ballet Regional Dance Company in New York State. She has studied with many wonderful artists in the US and Paris such as Kennet Oberly, Jin Wen Yu, and Wayne Byars. In Seattle, Courtney has had the opportunity to perform works by a number of local choreographers including Alianna Jaqua and Karn Junkinsmith. She holds a BA from Smith College, where she was an active member of the dance department, and a M.Ed. in early childhood special education from the University of Washington. She currently works as an autism specialist/special education teacher. This is Courtney's third season with Lehua Dance Theatre.
